Future Gazing

As LATA Expo 2021 comes to a close we look at what the future holds for the travel industy as a whole, and the Latin American market specifically.

We will look at the latest research on consumer sentiment towards travel and the level of pent-up demand, as well as understanding how historical and current data can provide insight into what a recovery of the tourism sector might look like.

Emma Barnes

Emma has worked on the travel team at Mail Metro Media for over 10 years now and in travel media for 17 years.

Her previous roles include Sales Manager at TTG and TTGLuxury magazine and International Sales Manager at Luxury Travel Magazine and Conference & Incentive Travel Magazine.

Emma creates bespoke content solutions for global travel clients including tourism boards, airlines, hotel groups and OTAs and manages advertising and partnership activity across the entire portfolio. MMM’s partnerships are data driven using online behavior intelligence and consumer insight so clients can work with MMM with confidence and trust.

Juan Gómez

Juan Gómez is a seasoned expert in travel and tourism and Insights Expert at ForwardKeys.

In his role at ForwardKeys he advises clients in the tourism and finance sectors in their strategic decision-making using the freshest data and view for new business opportunities.

After completing his postgraduate studies in Tourism Management at the University of Westminster (UK), he gained professional experience working as Research Manager Hotels, Leisure and Tourism at BDO Hotel’s Consultancy department. With plenty of international exposure, he has grown to be a frequent speaker on the topic of travel post-COVID.

Dale Keller

Dale Keller was appointed Chief Executive of The Board of Airline Representatives in the UK (BAR UK) in November 2012 with a career spanning 35 years in the aviation, travel and tourism sector.

Most recently, he has been instrumental in guiding the airline membership through the unprecedented crisis caused by the Covid pandemic. His engagement with the UK Government included sitting on the International Travel Expert Steering Group (ESG) and presenting industry positions through engagement with the Global Travel Taskforce.

He started his aviation career as one of the start up team at Ansett New Zealand and since moving to the UK in 1990, the New Zealand born professional has held several travel retail roles, including London Flight Centres. A return to airline management commenced with China Airlines, followed by eight years with Air Malta, where as UK General Manager he was instrumental in restructuring the airline’s UK operations for entry into the EU.

Following a period at Air Mauritius as Regional Manager UK, in 2007 he joined a management buyout of specialist aviation and travel consultancy KTA Public Relations.

Other notable roles include holding the chairmanship of APRO (Airline Public Relations Organisation) and a previous airline board position with BAR UK.

Dale holds a diploma in Marketing from the London College of Communication.

Gary Cohen

Gary’s passion for travel started early. He was born in South Africa and then moved to the UK when he was 10. After graduating from university, he started travelling all over Latin America and eventually worked as an overland expedition leader from 2003 to 2005.

After leaving the travel industry for a few years to live in Spain, he then joined Intrepid as their Ground Manager in Buenos Aires at the end of 2010, later becoming their Operations Manager in Peru. He is now their Regional General Manager for the Americas, based in Lima.

Ian Taylor - Session Moderator

Ian Taylor is executive editor of Travel Weekly Group, reporting online and in print for Travel Weekly, Travel Weekly Business, Travel Weekly Europe and Travel Weekly Insight.

He reports sector-wide on aviation, leisure and corporate travel, inbound and outbound and moderates events. He is a career journalist who has worked in travel for most of the last 20 years.
